About me

Academy Award-winning composer on the soundtrack of James Cameron’s “Titanic,” the 1998 UFC women’s heavyweight champion, part-time dog walker, the PYT that inspired Michael Jackson himself, the first female president of the free world, and world-renown pathological liar.

I’m kidding. I’m Jane. Not Fonda, Austen or Eyre. Just Jane. Jane Hughes if you want to get formal, but that’s no fun.

2009 was the year I decided my voice needed to be heard, and as a 13-year-old pubescent ball of angst and absurdity, I joined Twitter. This is the day I regret most in my life. Okay, not really, but man it should be illegal to join social media if you’re as ridiculous as I was.

Eternally embarrassed by my haunting past social media presence, I promised myself I would find redemption… somehow. And so here we are. All jokes aside, I think that social media gives us so much power – to connect, to share, to learn – and this time I intend to use it for good. No absurdity, and much less angst, I hope.

“So what makes you special?”

That’s a question I have asked myself a million times over, believe me. To be honest I’m fairly convinced that if you Google the phrase “person who is average at everything,” a picture of my face will pop up. But you know, I think there is some beauty in that, and I think I’ve finally found an answer to the big question.

What do I have to bring to the table? A whole lot of nothing, but a little bit of everything. I’m working with what I’ve got and accepting the fact that I don’t know it all but I have a heart that is eager to learn.

This is the blog of a modern jack of all trades, master of none. Emphasis on the none. I wouldn’t call my blog a “lifestyle” blog because as a 21-year-old college student, my lifestyle is constantly changing. I am many things, and a writer is one of them. So here are my adventures and misadventures, my thoughts and opinions on current events, and maybe some advice here or there. (You don’t even have to take it. Sometimes I don’t.)

I’m a believer in the good of our world and the beauty in humanity. I think that maybe, just maybe if we shared a little bit more of our hearts with one another, we wouldn’t have so many problems, and we would have a harder time accepting and perpetuating hate. I’m testing this theory on myself.

This is the blog of my life; an open and honest account of the highs and the lows. I hope you are entertained and inspired. I hope to stir up a conversation, and maybe even provide some comic relief, and I hope you decide to share your heart with me too.

Here we go.

– Plain Jane xx
